You know hockey playoffs are coming when...

In all seriousness though, you are going to see a lot of hockey mad Canadians in about 10 days when the playoffs start. Except of course Toronto Maple Leaf fans and with any luck Vancouver Canucks fans, because who can honestly cheer for those two teams?

It's a great day for Edmonton, but if we had a choice, would Detroit or Dallas be the preferred opponent? That aside, will there be one game in the series where our guys don't wake up only by the third period?

I'm not a hockey expert, but I would say unless Roloson pulls a "Cujo vs. team Dallas" performance, I would give up Spacek and someone else and a draft pick for a world-class goaltender this summer. Why can't a Cristobal or Lundvquist happen to us?

By now we are all aware that the Oilers will face those crotchety old men from Detroit in the first round of the playoffs.

Which is probably a good thing all around because people are excited and the Oilers have played exceptionally good against Detroit this year and have the potential the make a very good series out of it. On top of that Detroit has a bad history of coming out flat for the first round :)

If they were to face Dallas I think that the teams would fare pretty good against one another, but everyone would have the attitude of "Not these guys again, can't we face someone else in the playoffs?". So all in all the refreshing change has done a lot of good to make people enthusiastic about the playoffs this year.

It's rare that the Oilers have been outshot this season, usually they're the ones who pour on 20 in a desperation third period. So these three games have really been a test, and not just for Roloson, but for Lowe as well. He must be basking in glory right now on the strength of his trade deadline moves. MacTavish also looks like a genius for working the tra-- er, I mean, the "aggressive press", the "neutral-zone polka". It's only barely kept them in the game with Detroit, but on the other hand, they definitely are in every game. What a series.

Calgary on the other hand is in it deep against the Ducks. Ever since his Winnipeg Jets days I'll always be a fan of Selanne. Unlike Mogilny, Nedved, and the rest he's one European that always comes to play.
