New Dark Horizons Title!

You read that right, Dark Horizons Lore, the cult game that was done oh so many years ago is getting a sequel that will be released this winter!

This is something that I have known about for a while now, being that I am involved in the project and all, but in case you missed the formal announcement that Adrian made on the MGT Blogs here are some rough details that I am allowed to mention:

- This is an entirely new product, not a mod or add-on. The reason for doing this as a new product is primarily so that we can utilize all the new code and resources that we have developed since Lore was released 3 years ago!
- The game will have both a single player and a multi player portion to it.
- The game will utilize Pixel Shaders throughout. This means that there will be an increase in the required system specifications so that we can push this graphical "oomph" out.
- The game will feature Infantry (operating in Power Armor), Mechanized Assault Vehicles (MAVs) and other vehicles of war (ie. tanks, transport jets, etc.). All of this will be brand new art created specificly for this sequel and will further the story of the Eastern Confederation invasion of North America.
- The game will be developed for PC as well as a simultaneous Mac and Linspire/Linux release.
- Projected completion date is December 2006. There will be a closed alpha test and an open beta test period.

There is plenty more to come, but that is all that I can talk about at the moment.

Edmonton to Vegas to Edmonton in 5 Days

Just got back from a fantastic 5 day trip to Vegas with my wife and her parents.

We arrived late Sunday night to catch the tail end of mayhem that was the Labour Day Long Weekend. It was literally shoulder to shoulder people from all walks of life out there from vacationers such as ourselves, UNLV students looking to party it up before getting serious with school, locals looking for a good time and so much more.
As the week progressed things thankfully calmed down with the crowds getting smaller and smaller every day to the point where the strip was pretty empty and void of people.

With smaller crowds of people in the Casinos, and thus less idiots, I was finally able to get in on a few games of Craps. I prefer less crowded tables because a) you get a chance to roll the dice more often thus, keeping a good feel of things, b) there is less worry about crazy random dice rollers and c) the tables are only $5 which allows for a longer time gambling and more free drinks :). Needless to say the tables were very good to me allowing me to double my gambling money that I had alotted.

I also got a chance to check out a few attractions/sights in Vegas (not including the free ones that you can view from the strip) this time around including:
- Imperial Place Car Museum, a very cool collection of some 100 cars from the 1930s to today. Pretty much every car is available for purchase ranging from 8,000 to 1.4 million. Well worth the admission price to have a chance to check out so many great cars.
- Ceasers Palace Car Museum, showing off some 20 modern cars and bikes, this collection is pretty neat to go see if you want to check out some newer cars that you will probably never aquire in your lifetime including the Koenigsegg CCX the faster car in the world. Unfortunately you breeze through this show in about 5 minutes and are kept pretty far away from the cars (since they are also for sale)
- Star Trek the Experiance, located at the Hilton hotel this show offers you a couple of rides that you can take in. The "Klingong Encounter" a fun but slightly outdated motion simulator ride where you get to walk on the bridge of the Enterprise and then escape from the Klingons on board a shuttlepod, and the "Borg 4D Encounter" which is a 4D movie experiance. Both shows were pretty cool and entertaining and afterwards we had the opportunity to eat in a small remake of Quarks bar from DS9.
