Digial Media Association of Alberta Meeting

On Tuesday night I attended a meeting of the Digital Media Association of Alberta (DMAA) - Edmonton Chapter which was held downtown at Ceili's Pub. For those of you who probably haven't heard of the DMAA before, its a group or collection of media professionals and companies who gather together to promote this industry here in Alberta.

Although the group has been around for a while, they haven't had a chance to really get the Edmonton chapter up and running to do the usual meet & greet gatherings, promotions or speaches/sessions that they do down in Calgary. As such I was pretty curious about what I should expect since this was the first time I have ever attended one of thier meetings (this in fact was only their second one here in Edmonton). Much to my delight the informal gathering of media professionals went off without a hitch and in fact was very informative and enjoyable.

There were about 16 individuals that braved the snow storm and crappy roads to come out to the event as such at the table we had members from Industry Canada, Digital Video Editors, Web Designers & Programmers, Graphic Designers, Students and many more. Much of the evening was spent talking about the work that we do and it seemed that everyone enjoyed the stories and information that was shared. I honestly have to say that it was very cool to meet so many different people who are from a similar industry all of whom have a very positive outlook not only on the work that they do but on what the future holds for all of us here in this province. So if you are in Alberta (Calgary or Edmonton) you should come on out to the next gathering this group does and say hello.

Belated Birthday Notice

I didn't have the time to post this before but Monday was officially my birthday. This years event, like most other years due to the fact this is the start of nasty winter weather here in Canada, was pretty subdued with me and my families (mine and my wifes) out at the cabin.

We feasted on a lot of good food and had a good time hanging out chatting and taking the Snowmobile/Ski-doo & Quad out for a romp on the lake. As such good times were had all around by both young and old, so I couldn't ask for much more.
