You Don't See This Everyday

Last night coming home from a hockey game with a friend, we ended up running into a bunch of police barricades that were setup on the main roads home. As such we took a little detour until we ran smack dap into the middle of a massive moving operation that the police were helping out with.

What they were assisting to move was an oilfield Coker that was so massive it was at least 100 meters long and 20 meters in diameter. The sheer size of this item meant that it had to take a specific route through the city, no underpasses (since it was too big to fit) and the City Power company was actually dismantling lights, power lines and other things that crossed its path on the main road (another reason why the cops were there). This thing was so big, they had something like 3 or 4 massive moving flatbeds either hauling or helping to push this beast through the city. And I mean push, you could get out and walk faster than this thing was travelling.

Sadly I did not have my camera with me, but here is an image I found on the manufacturers website that shows an example of one of these massive beasts in all its glory (sadly this one is actually smaller).

I think you get the idea though that this was truely a sight to see and coming from such a random occurance was pretty dammed cool.

Here is a link to the newspaper article if you are curious, sadly they didn't bother to include a picture in the online article either.

Recovered from the Holidays

I took me quite some time but I finally managed to recover from the Holidays. Sadly unlike other people around here who had two weeks off (explain to me why most businesses and schools gave off two week?), I only had a couple of days off to enjoy the holidays (more on that later).

This particular year Erin and I tried something different, instead of racing about to all our families homes on Christmas Day we figured we would instead host Christmas at our new house for everyone to attend. Although this meant more time to spend with families and less time running around, it also brought in more work to do, especially for my wife who cooked the meals for everyone this day (if you are wondering I fell back into a support role of cleaning up, washing dishes, etc.).

Things went really well how ever with everyone having a good time and staying really late into the evening.
